Who we are
BOOKS for BEGINNERS is a not-for-profit program for students ages 2-5 who attend Head Start in Palm Beach County, Florida. The program supports early childhood literacy by providing each student, age 2-5, with their own book each month. BOOKS for BEGINNERS started as a community impact project by Sarah Abraham, a high school student in her junior year at the Dreyfoos School of the Arts in West Palm Beach, Florida. After volunteering briefly at Head Start in West Palm Beach, Sarah wanted to leave a more meaningful impact on the students at Head Start. Herself an avid reader, despite constant access to social media and technology, Sarah was eager to share the unique experience of holding a book and delving into an adventure within the pages of a physical text, filled with colorful pictures and words, that for Sarah, provide the imagination with a magical pastime. Furthermore, Sarah felt that having one’s own book allows the reader to revisit the adventure and extend the joy of learning.
